Network/Perimeter Security is missing today's most dangerous threats: Challenges with securing Web applications

Perimeter security mechanisms have advanced significantly, and are an integral part of an overall security strategy. However, traditional perimeter security devices were never intended to protect complex applications, and the majority of today's Internet-based attacks are targeting these applications specifically. In this webcast, we will discuss an overview of today's Web application threat landscape, followed by some examples of Web application attacks. Then we'll cover some more specific examples of how traditional perimeter technologies such as firewalls and IDS/IPS can easily be evaded by manipulating attack signatures. Finally, we'll wrap up with a discussion of positive versus negative security and some criteria to consider for choosing Web application firewalls today.
